The Greenhouses
Feel the future
The Greenhouses offer a different immersive space ; By experiencing the different temperature changes, visitors can touch and feel and sense the immediate differences.
The Greenhouses instill a sense of calm and wonder whilst visitors are transported through the years.

Powerful use of mirrors around the edge of the greenhouses demonstrate the rising sea levels, as one moves from greenhouse to greenhouse this change is evident.
Audio/Visual Biome
The greenhouse exhibition space, will lead visitors through a number of different biomes, showing a specific location on earth in 50 / 100 / 125 years’ time; the sounds will also change and adapt as the visitor continues on this journey.
The sounds won’t overlap or blend together, and the silent areas will be just as important for the visual to take centre stage. When stepping through from 50 to 100 years, for example, not only will the temperature change, but also the sound of bird song or insects will also change, in a subtle yet noticeable way, as will the plants and the colour of the earth.
Immersing the visitor in sounds, smells and visual changes, as well as inviting the visitor to touch and feel the earth will have a resounding emotional response.
Future Use
A Greenhouse is for life...
The greenhouses will be utilised as community gardening spaces once the exhibition is over, with each greenhouse moved to an area of York not currently utilised as green space.
Including the Green Spaces York project will ensure the greenhouses are not wasted, but used as community gardening projects to enhance the green spaces of York and to go back into the community.
